Eddy Petrișor: finally, I can get rid of filelight!

The desktop enviroment is not a religious thing for me. IMHO, they all (3 of them) have missing parts which are present in the others. I never really used Xfce.

OTOH, I have been switching back and forth between GNOME and KDE during my time as a GNU/Linux user. Since I always found that one of the environments was missing things which were present in the other, I think I have switched at least 3 times both ways by now.

Now, with the release of GNOME 2.18, I will have one less reason to think to move away from GNOME, which is the current desktop environment. One of the apps I was missing in GNOME was a filelight-like application that would show usage in a very intuitive graphical way. Now it seems that baobab (commonly known as Disk Usage Utility) has a ring chart similar to filelight's. Yay!

Now, if somebody would take the task of rewriting granslator, I would be more than glad to drop kbabel...

Note: I was disapointed that GNOME Space Chart never made it to public... that disappointment lasted until now.

David Moreno Garza: Planning trip to DebConf7

I’ve also started to look for the best plan to reach Edinburgh next June. I don’t think I’ll fly directly from Mexico City, since I want to visit Paris (in spite of my previous and only experience with CDG back in 2005 :-P ) and then visit a nice friend in Bilbao. Then I could fly from there to Edinburgh or some place nearby with a cheap flights airline.
Quick searches throw an estimate of 1′150 USD for the trip MEX-JFK-CDG-JFK-MEX on Delta. Fortunately, I’ve started saving already, so I don’t get pressure on money once DebConf gets closer. I still don’t know anyway if this could be the best way to travel. I’ve been suggested, also, to travel from Canc n to Madrid through Air Europe, with the cost of ~515 , which is way more cheap than to fly to Paris, but I should also pay for the transportation from Mexico City to Canc n and from Madrid to Paris, if I really want to visit it, which I do. Anyway, the cheapest flight I could get directly to Edinburgh is ~1300 USD: MEX-ATL-EDI-ATL-MEX, with Delta too. Any suggestion on the matter is welcome and appreciated.

Erich Schubert: Nuke your thumbnails day.

I wondered where all my diskspace had gone to... Using Baobab, I discovered it was my ~/.thumbnails directory containing 1.1 GB of data. I definitely have way to many pictures... (there were thumbnails of at least of all pictures I shot during my US trip in there) So when you are running out of diskspace, check your Trash and thumbnails folders... ;-)
